There are several fine golf courses near Camping du Quinquis - view MAP

    Ploemeur Ocean

Sea views and a large sand quarry provide the somewhat mixed outlook at the start of this very seasidey, holiday golf course. From the 11th to the 16th you are treated to wonderful by-the-sea, links golf, which would stand along many of the very good links offerings of Scotland or Ireland (gorse rather than sand dunes featuring most strongly). On the front nine however, which is also quite undulating, the holes are tightly packed together; avoiding the large areas of gorse bushes and small lakes and streams will be your main concern. In contrast to the "togetherness" of the front nine, the back nine takes you on a circumnavigation of the tiny village of Kerham, while giving the best sea views and strongest holes. A busy and popular course that has a genuine seaside feel, even though its general layout and maintenance will take a while to warm to.

How to get there

8 km W of Lorient

From N165 (E60) take exit 44 (Queven) and follow D163 direction Ploemeur.  Follow direction Fort Bloque.  After 5.6 km turn right at traffic lights onto D162 direction Ploemeur.  After 5.3 km turn left onto D152.  After 1.4 km turn left at sign "Golf de Ploemeur Ocean".  After 100m Golf is in front of you.

  Golf de Saint Laurent

This is one of the real hidden gems of North-West France. The pleasantly tree-lined fairways lead you to firm, fast and excellent greens, providing, that is, you miss the ever-present green-side bunkers - some of which are as big as the greens themselves. There are no weak holes on the course, although the first, a short par-4, may give you a slightly different impression. By the time you get to the long par-4 3rd, you'll be well aware that your A-game is needed to score well on this excellent championship course, set as it is among some splendid rural countryside and impressive mature woodland

  Val Queven

An excellent uphill par-4 opening hole sets the tone for this pleasant, undulating course, with its anti-clockwise back-9 wrapped around the clockwise front-9.  The layout is nicely wooded , but never claustrophobically so.  Particularly on the front-9 there are some tight-ish drives to make, but generally this is a fair course, and from the back-tees will give low handicappers a thorough workout.  Water is not too much in evidence;  good bunkering and relatively large greens will keep you focused if trying to build a good score.  A pleasant course with a good level of upkeep.

  Baden

Alongside the wide river d'Auray is this recently developed course, which embraces water, open aspects, woodland holes and plenty of uphillers and downhillers, which makes full use of the undulating terrain. The early holes offer lovely views over the river, and later the steepled-church of Baden looks down on your proceedings. The closing stretch starting at the par-4 14th contains the five strongest holes on the course and overcomes the feeling you get in the middle of the course that you are going over the same ground as before (the par-4 7th and 11th holes that run parallel to the same green epitomise this feeling). With real estate developing around the course, the popularity of this enjoyable layout is guaranteed.

How to get there

42km SE of Lorient

From N165 (E60) SE of Auray, take the D101 direction Bono.  After 7.1 km turn right at Golf sign.  After 1 km turn left onto Golf.

  Le Bretesche

Towering pines and oak trees create tight-ish corridor-like fairways here in the sumptuous woodland setting of the even more sumptuous Chateau de la Bretesche.  The Chateau, providing a bacldrop for the 9th and 18th holes is a definitive towers and turrets grand chateau, with moat and all - quite spectacular.  The golf course opens out a little near the chateau, but is mostly a very pleasant tree-lined affair, which requires precision over power.  Beware the large greens, they can be quite quick, and also beware the trade-mark Bill Baker U-bend hole, that appears as the par-4 8th, and contains far too many degrees of bend for a single par-4.

  La Baule

La Baule Rouge

If La Baule is "Paris-by-the-Sea", then the Red course at La Baule Golf Club is surely designed to make the many visiting Parisiennes feel comfortably at home.  This graceful parkland layout, with its gentle undulations, feels at the outset like one of the excellent parkland layouts that adorn the capital city itself.  After 5 holes however, the scene changes to a more open and modern layout, where water, big greens, serious bunkering and fairway-side real estate are more evident.  But don't despair, at the par-4 14th its back to classic parkland, with the closing duo at 17 and 18 providing a terrific grandstand finish, where water is the big challenge.  An excellent course throughout, one that will definitely not disappoint.

La Baule Bleu

Like the Rouge (Red) course at La Baule, the Bleu starts in a pleasant woodland setting before undergoing a dramatic change of character from the par-4 5th to the par-4 13th.  The middle section of the course is played in a large open expanse of slightly undulating terraine that, together withthe new real estate developments, gives things a very American feel.  When the wind is blowing, the water features that come into play at the 10th, 11th and 12th, can turn these holes into real card wreckers.  This is a pleasant enough course to play, with quite a strong start and finish, but in many respects the Bleu lacks the depth and classicism of the Red.
